Full job description

I. Job Summary

Medical technologists analyze samples of blood, tissue and body fluids to determine chemical content, cell count, drug levels or blood type; they may also search for specific microorganisms like bacteria or parasites. Preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results are all part of a medical technologist's job.

The day-to-day duties of a medical technologist include complex analysis of microscopic, immunologic, biologic, bacteriologic, hematologic, and chemical tests and their results.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

a. Specific Role

a. Attends to the patient request for laboratory procedures and its instructions.

b. Collect and prepare blood, urine, stool and tissue samples for analysis as requested.

c. Examine collected samples and identify any cell abnormalities.

d. Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures.

e. Run Chemistry, Immunology and other laboratory tests using available laboratory equipment, machines and supplies.

f. Establishing and perform monitoring programs that ensure data accuracy which includes running of daily quality control and needed PMS and calibration of laboratory equipment and machines.

g. Analyzing lab reports for accuracy.

h. Prepare blood / urine samples for send out to partner tertiary laboratories.

i. Collaborate with pathologist and other medical specialists to determine correct diagnosis if cell abnormalities are discovered. Collecting and studying blood samples to determine morphology.

j. Coordinate with patients for any preparations, further instructions and requirements needed.

k. Perform quality control / validation (in CIMS) of all results before releasing results to patients.

l. Sorting and releasing of results - Pick Up / Send Out / Email.

m. Release sorted Pick Up / Send Out results to Releasing Department and email results to patients if requested.

n. Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies

o. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.

p. Perform mobile APE blood extraction or onsite processing of stool samples, if needed.

q. Perform home service blood extraction, as needed.

r. Prepare requirements for DOH inspection and compliance.

s. Responsible of annual NEQAS application and running of NEQAS samples as required by the national reference laboratories.

t. Relay patient’s laboratory results to requesting / attending physicians if results reach reportable value.

b. General Duties

a. Fulfill the company’s set KPI.

b. Ensure completeness of reports and deliverables assigned.

c. Follow the operations safety and health regulations at the workplace.

d. Adhere to Data Privacy Act.

e. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

f. Follow company policies set forth in Employee Handbook.

g. Perform other tasks from time to time.

h. Observe cleanliness in the laboratory and extraction area at all times.

III. Required Skills and Competence

a. Filipino citizen and a resident of the Philippines

b. Graduate of BS Medical Technology

c. Candidate must possess at least Professional License (Passed Board/Professional License Exam) in Medical Technology
