Business Loan Underwriter - Remote

SimplyFunded is a UK-based direct business lender providing fast, flexible, and responsible funding to small and medium-sized enterprises across England, Scotland, and Wales.
We fund loans from £3,000 to £100,000 over 3 to 12 months, often providing offers within 1–2 days and same-day payouts for approved applications.

The Role

We’re looking for a Business Loan Underwriter to join our growing credit team and help maintain our fast turnaround times without compromising decision quality.
You’ll play a key role in reviewing and assessing loan applications, balancing risk and reward, and producing clear, well-structured credit recommendations.

You’ll work closely with our credit, legal, and applications teams to ensure decisions follow our established underwriting procedure - from initial credit checks and affordability assessment through to offer calculation and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess SME loan applications against SimplyFunded’s credit and affordability framework
• Conduct full credit checks including company, director, and homeowner verification
• Analyse bank statements and management accounts to assess sales consistency, debt exposure, and affordability
• Evaluate HMRC position, supplier payments, and payroll stability
• Identify and document key risks and mitigants in clear credit memorandums
• Apply SimplyFunded’s lending matrix to determine available headroom and calculate final loan offers
• Communicate effectively with brokers and applicants to clarify outstanding points
• Work collaboratively with the applications team through final checks and offer issuance
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and adherence to internal underwriting policy

What We’re Looking For

• At least 3 years’ experience in business loan or SME credit underwriting
• Strong analytical skills and confidence reviewing financial data and bank statements
• Solid understanding of credit risk and affordability principles
• Excellent written and verbal English communication
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote environment
• Commercial mindset with sound judgement and consistency in decision-making

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (UK time) (3pm-12am Manila, 4pm - 1am Manila during Daylight saving)
