Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Mechanical Draftsperson to join our engineering team. You will be responsible for producing high-quality technical drawings and 3D models for specialized equipment used in meat works and abattoirs.

This role is critical in translating complex engineering concepts into fabrication-ready drawings for conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and structural platforms. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the mechanical requirements and hygiene standards (stainless steel fabrication) required in food-grade environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Drafting: Prepare precise 2D layouts and 3D models using AutoCAD for abattoir equipment, specifically focused on conveyor systems (belt, chain, and overhead).
• Equipment Design: Draft detailed shop drawings for vats, hoppers, chutes, and custom stainless steel tanks used in meat processing.
• Structural Integration: Design and document supporting structures including mezzanine floors, walkways, and plant room layouts.
• Fabrication Support: Generate comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) and fabrication drawings that account for material thickness, welding symbols, and tolerances.
• Coordination: Work closely with Australian-based Project Managers to ensure designs meet site-specific requirements and Australian safety standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• Specific Industry Expertise: Minimum of 3–5 years of drafting experience specifically within the Abattoir, Meat Processing, or Food & Beverage industries.
• Mechanical Mastery: Proven experience drafting Conveyor Systems and material handling solutions.
• Software Proficiency: Expert-level skills in AutoCAD (2D & 3D). Experience with 3D modeling for mechanical assemblies is essential.
• Material Knowledge: Strong understanding of Stainless Steel fabrication techniques and food-grade hygiene design principles.
• Australian Standards: Familiarity with Australian engineering standards and OH&S requirements in a processing plant environment is highly regarded.
• Communication: Exceptional English communication skills to participate in technical briefings and explain design iterations via MS Teams/Zoom.

• Problem Solver: Ability to visualize how mechanical components (motors, rollers, chains) fit into a larger processing line.
• Independent Worker: Proven ability to manage drafting deadlines from a remote/offshore environment with minimal supervision.
