Low pay, long working hours.

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I enjoyed the job and the people that I worked with. The hours were long and the pay was low. Very physical job, on your feet for long stretches of time.

Fun but hard work and low pay

TJX does not pay enough for what they expect of their employees. The job is fun if you have a good manager, they keep you busy and expect you to work hard!

Fast paced retail environment

This is a typical big box store retail environment. The amount of product and pace is fast. Management was hands on and available to support. Other coordinators were helpful

Fun and engaging

Very nice managers and coworkers. Since it’s in a small town nothing too busy but overall a good start into the retail work area. Only downside was customer dissatisfaction with things that those people are used to

Challenging, stressful, fun.

I started a Merchandise Associate, asked for a floor position 8 months in. Job title changed to FEC. Basically responsible for informing cashiers of cue line growth, tidying up cue line, keeping customers happy, promoting company cc as well as producing great surveys for customer experience satisfaction Picking up hours difficult. Revolving door of college student hires. Primarily hire part-time. That being said company worked with me a lot due to tardiness and callouts. As a single parent getting back in the work force I was grateful. Yearly raises depending on your performance review. As much as I disliked the scheduling issues it was an amazing experience and as someone with adhd it is the perfect working environment for me.

Sucked

This place kinda blowed tbh if you want retail experience I recommend elsewhere because you won't be satisfied here thats for sure. Pay wasn't worth it either

Fast paced & fun but also frustrating

The job itself isn’t difficult. I personally love that it is fast paced it makes the shift go by quickly. I also really enjoy the people I work with. But if I didn’t like the people I worked with I would’ve left already. The pay is not ideal. Most associates make minimum wage & for coordinators you don’t make what you should given the amount of work. They never have the payroll to higher the amount of people needed to run the store and so the people there do the work of multiple people with the pay of one. Some of the managers are great but the others are very lazy and not helpful at all, which makes management overall less than ideal. The company themselves care more about people applying for credit cards than about any associates experience. You receive no reward for getting people to apply so if you do your job extremely well you make as much & are treated the same as someone who doesn’t.

It's ok

The coworkers and managers have been supportive and friendly. The Actual work is easy but dreadful. It gets incredibly busy during the holidays and much more is expected of you.

Undervalued and Undernourished

Within this workplace, there's a noticeable trend in the demographic it attracts – often, individuals who haven't had extensive educational opportunities, mainly middle-aged women, find themselves drawn to this environment. Unfortunately, creativity seems undervalued and undernourished here. The upper echelons of management operate with a rigid structure that tends to depersonalize employees, treating them more like assets than individuals.Compensation, unfortunately, barely meets the minimum standards, leaving little room for financial growth or stability. Despite putting in exemplary efforts, the lack of real recognition or rewards can be disheartening. This absence of acknowledgment for outstanding performance doesn't create an environment that nurtures growth or encourages going above and beyond. For those with aspirations and a hunger for advancement, it's worth considering seeking opportunities elsewhere. A workplace that appreciates creativity, invests in its employees, and offers better compensation for their contributions might be a more fulfilling choice in the pursuit of professional growth.

Pros

Sometimes they throw you a candy bar for exemplary service

Cons

Everything else

Stay positive

On the one hand, it can be exhilarating to meet and exceed goals, and to see the direct impact of your work. On the other hand, the pressure to perform can be intense, and the long hours can take a toll on your mental and physical health. In my experience, the key to success in this type of environment is to stay focused, stay organized, and stay positive.

Tjx

If you follow rules and do what’s expected you will never have a problem with management. There’s a lot of different cultures but I like seeing how they all come together to do the task at hand.

Busy store

Management is nice. Store is very hectic. Scheduling can be very random, such as closing the store the night before and opening the next. You will be on your feet all day.

Not worth the risk for minimum wage

Minimum wage employees as young as 17 often have to deal with hostile or intoxicated customers. Employees are told to stay within earshot but otherwise don't interact. LP is not always available.

Productive and fun work place

I had fun at my time working for this place. Good pay, great benefits, would work again if I had to do it all over again. They help you with promotion within so it’s great for a career.

Not a team effort

I work between 40-56 hours a week and push so much freight that when the other people in my team would not or do less when they see me do what their job was suppose to be. I always have an 100% work effort but there’s always someone who will complain to the manger of something the manger in my team did but the manager would say I did it because I am the newer employee. Even though I know u didn’t do anything they’d would agree with the manger who said he didn’t. I’m an hard working individual, I was training to be an assistant manger but they chose someone with little experience on how to run a backroom and who was just hired because quote one quote they were talkative and I wasn’t ?? Great place to work if you plan on staying for few month, mostly all tj maxx have like 40 cashiers and 3 people doing freight. I was assigned to do freight I was 6 months in and didn’t know for me to learn something new I had to go complain about my job role they gave me. Which I didn’t comparing about it just why didn’t they teach me sooner but they’re reasoning was I never complained about my task or even talked to them. So somehow my fault for not wanting to learn more. They’d cut my hours and complaing about how No one wants to down stack palletes when a truck was coming that day

Pros

Working alone

Cons

Short breaks

Unproductive and overworked

Definitely not the greatest experience. Management was barely present and when they were, they got mad that things they never taught their employees weren't being followed.

It was a toxic work environment

What is the best part of working at the company? They have a low employee discount. You are constantly called to the register to ring to the point of not being able to complete other position duties. Then you are reprimanded for not completing them. The schedule is not what you sign on for and without notice. Constantly being called off allotted breaks to ring register. Supervisors play favorites and no accountability for their unprofessional behavior towards employees What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Working late at night with no helpWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?Mentally and verbally abusive What is a typical day like for you at the company?I was the financial office coordinator...I counted the money in the safe in the morning and placed the money in the registers during the day and collected the money out of them at night..I had to record overages/ shortages in a binder and search for mistakes and then have the employee sign it..then ring registers until the end of my shift..constantly pressured to open charges in front of customers
