Good starting line for your career as a CPA

If you're at the starting line of your career and hungry for growth, this company provides the ideal platform to launch your journey. Yet, be prepared for potential overtime commitments that could challenge your work-life balance.

challenging yet fun

if you to be adept in audit, SGV is the answer. The experience is the main driving factor why I applied in the company and did not regret it. Seniors are very professional.

Industry Exposure and Meaningful Work

Main selling point is the multiple industry exposure and meaningful projects you'll work onhowever, at the cost of work life balance, so heads up.Before you join the firm, you need reflect first on what you'd like to get out of the job. It is accelerated career advancement? then it would a good opportunity to work for the firm. If it's stable working hours and workload, then i would say NoPerks:Output based so work from home since pandemic (depends on partner)14-15th month payPromotions (they are very quick on promotions, just be proactive and take value adding responsibilities not random adhoc tasks)

Competitive working environment with large opportunities for career growth

SGV is a good firm to start your career as a CPA. It provides lots of trainings and growth opportunities to allow you to fast track your career development. Cons, however, include, lots of work loads that will really push you to take overtimes due to multiple engagements that have strict deadlines especially during busy seasons.

Great jump starter for your professional career

The opportunities after spending some time in this company is vast. However, you have work so much harder before you get there. The pay of new hires has been way better than the pay when I started, however, it is still quite low comparing it to other professional services firms.

Pros

Outside opportunities

Cons

Severely long hours during peak season

A good kickstart for your accounting career

Expect lots of workload but it will be worth it once you have already accomplished all of your engagements. Constant feedback is provided and approachable colleagues.

Great experience. No Work-life balance though.

Great experience. No Work-life balance though. Most of the time you will be required to work on weekends. Sometimes your overtime cant be charged because your hours are budgeted.

Good experience, low pay

The experience working in SGV is more compared to my peers (fresh graduates). However, the pay isn't that great compared to other jobs at the same level.

-good work experience if you are a fresh graduate

good work experience if you are a fresh graduate as you will really learn how to work under pressure, gives discretionary bonus (performance bonus) every year

Good starting point for your career but salary is low

SGV provides a lot of trainings for new hires which is great for someone who has just started working however after a few years, the pay cannot catch up with the complexity of the work they require you to do.Everyone in my service line was supportive and was open to constructive criticism including higher ups which is rare. The workload is heavy which makes the low pay really glaring.

Pros

Good trainings, supportive team members

Cons

Low pay, overtime, heavy workload

Associate

Good first work experience that will open up opportunities locally and abroad. As this is a big company, getting to move within the firm gives you an advantage before going out to the industry.

Pros

Career development, intelligent and young people to work with

Cons

Long hours

Good for starters and newbies

Pros:- good working environment with colleagues- benefits are good and easily claimable (internet allow/transpo allow)- paid sl/vl even during probationary period- Flexible working hours as long as you finish the work period (A++++)- not micromanaged- the team I was in was very helpful especially the seniors. They were very friendly and will teach you with patience and even set up one on one meetings which they are not required to do so. Cons:- salary is very low considering the very high inflation rate - some managers are not helpful AT ALL. They don’t manage and lead, but instruct only. Since it was understaffed, you will take over tasks that are not yours to begin with with no proper training on those tasks. You will have to figure it out on your own- no proper training (training was conducted after busy season)- training bond- no proper resource planning. You will be assigned to many clients with short notice since they are understaffed.

The best training ground for career advancement

Although, honestly, the job will demand time and effort from you, the learning experience is worth it. You can gain knowledge and confidence to help you on your next role in another company. If you plan on staying, it is also worth it!

Career kickstarter

A day at work usually consists of meetings / status updates with teams, inspecting documents from clients, researching accounting guidance (PFRS, etc.), discussing accounting or audit issues with clients, and/or review sessions with the team. The workplace is collaborative and supports a "consultation culture", with groups like the accounting standards group that help teams with complex issues.I learned a lot of things in SGV, ranging from people management, technical knowledge on accounting rules, financial statement analysis and review, risk assessments, communication/presentation, time management and many more. The problem however is with how the profession as a whole (not just SGV) has grown accustomed to its practices and circumstances for the past decades. Audit fees are relatively small, and what happens is people are stretched a lot to work on multiple projects. There's also the problem of the pay gap among members of the client-serving team, with staff and supervisors receiving significantly lower salaries versus managers, and partners receiving a lot more than the rest. While there's value indeed in the insights, judgment and other capabilities as well as risk-taking (it's them who sign the reports after all) provided by the partners, it can also be argued that the amount of work that staff put into audits also deserve proportionate compensation. This is what made the job really hard especially with the impact of the pandemic and the great resignation. People were stretched beyond what was humanly possible.

Pros

Learning, training

Cons

Very long hours, stressful client interactions

Fun workplace

I enjoyed working here especially in my team. They will teach you something new. Tbh, I was so nervous when I first met them but when the time goes by I really had fun working with them. They are easy to be with especially most of the lawyers they are very approachable.

Pros

Free lunch sometimes

Cons

Not enough salary
