SGS feels like a stepping stone in my career. There are great opportunities if coming from outside, but they show a strong desire not to promote from within currently. While salaries were recently adjusted to be more competitive, there is a lot of stress and a lot of pressure to do more work than is reasonable in the time allotted. This leads to carelessness and mistakes which can cost time, money, and morale.
Pros
Flexible schedule, full benefits packages available
Cons
Travel distance, workplace stress
Management was incompetent and team leaders wasn’t properly trained. Management will over work and expect you not to ask because they really have the money.Organization falling due to losing business and high turnover of employees. Management gossip about there employees business to others, wouldn’t refer anyone unless your desperate.
Pros
Flexible hours go pay
Cons
Over worked, lack of communication, bad management
If you work in the lab, you will have opportunities to learn new techniques and advance quickly, but only if you are a competent worker and a manager favors you. If you do not get noticed, you will be stuck doing basic things with very little chance for advancement or raise. The raises are very low for everyone every year anyways though.
There is no HR or IT onsite so a lot of problems are dealt with little care or concern at a slow pace. More and more people leave due to the lack of growth, advancement and respect.
Pros
Coworkers are nice
Cons
Poor management, unprofessional, slacker coworkers, no respect, slow advancement
Since so many people quit either due to low pay or too much stress , situations are getting worse for those who has to complete other people’s work and overworked as a result currently there is no work life balance. May be situation improve in future.
Pros
Lot of training provided overall, people usually helpful, you will learn good wet techniques in short span of time.
Cons
Too much stress due to overworking, less pay as compared to other companies.
Management are close minded, nothing will change. Typical workplace that goes there from 9-5. Don't trust anyone cause it'll only bite you in the butt.
The company was great in collaboration. The salary for the amount of work was subpar. Many people left due to the low wages, therefore there was quite a high turn around. This had added stress on the employees because they had to train and complete their tasks efficiently.
Most people didn't receive a promotion beyond 5 years, the highest was 13 years. There was no opportunity for growth.
After I left the company, I made this known in my exit interview and within a year the structure changed and a lot of my former colleagues received a deserved promotion and had the ability to learn new things.
Good work environment but lacks job growth. Learned several entry level skills and good management. Hours are flexible but most days will require more then eight hours of work.
Start out with daily tasks like lab cleaning and preparing samples for testing. In the afternoon usually testing is done. Overall the day is pretty flexible work environment as long as you are still able to get your tasks done.
Pros
Flextime, friendly environment
Cons
Can get busy real fast
worst place to work at. No respect and work appreciation from management. Low pay and more work expectation.
SGS was a nice company to work for. For my first job, I was exposed to a nice pharmaceutical atmosphere that shaped my work ethic.
Pros
opportunities to learn, good training, professional workers
Cons
salaries are low.
