Culture has changed

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Culture has changed from being concerned with associates to only being concerned with numbers. Employees with 10 years of experience are leaving the company because of the culture change, and the funny thing is: Management is happy with it because they can pay someone less to do a similar job. Thing is the work quality is not similar, lots of corner cutting, the more corners you cut, the quicker you will be promoted.

Pros

benefits

Cons

its a numbers game. you are a number and can be replaced.

Decent pay and benefits. High turnover.

Decent pay and benefits. High turnover is a result of high stress retail work environment. However, you can somewhat guide your career progress how you wish. If you work hard, you can go where you want.

Inclusive & fun workplace.

The Cambridge Penske Truck Leasing location has a great group of people working there. Everyone wants to see you succeed & management does its very best to make sure you have all the tools you need. Pay & benefits are great and they are quite accommodating when you need time off. There are frequent lunches, BBQs, donuts. It is a very busy location but no one breathes down your back to get things done. The work is varied & the more you show you can do, the more they give you.

Not bad

Everyone is nice and helpful here. There isnt any micromanaging as long as you do your job and get the work done. The pay could be better. Definitely not a bad place for starters

Sucks the life out of you

Mismanaged! No room for growth and management does not reward hard work. They promise hire pay with piece rate. Yet refuse to make it possible. Down time is only entered into the system if the manager wants you to have it.

Very average

Good hours, manger is very responsive. Job is pretty easy I usually get the job done in 10 hours. My day usually start at 1pm and end at 11pm. Drive to San Bernardino and back then do 3 stop in Vegas to end the day

Average

Work long hours with little to no home time. “Night” shift starts at 5 pm. Sunday thru Thursday work week turns into mandatory 6 day work week with little notice.

As a supervisor you get to look for missing pallets, open dock doors, and pick up cases the hourly drop and leave on the ground.

Run away from this place. It was the absolute worst distribution center I’ve ever seen. The pay is extremely low for managers. The WMS is a dinosaur. Think MS DOS. They actually make you look for pallets the hourly place in the wrong locations daily. As an added bonus you get to pick up damaged cases from the ground the selectors drop in almost every aisle.

No supervision, short work day, easy touch freightliner delivery

Paid weekly guaranteed, no matter how much freight you have. I've never seen my supervisors, and they hardly bother us. Benefits are OK and the equipment is well maintained

Great entry position

Like the title says, but staying in Wichita’s Penske location won’t get you far in the industry if you’re an experienced technician. If you’re starting out, it’s a good place to start, the ability to get into the technical field with little to no experience is good, but there’s a cap of how much pay you’ll get with no incentives aside from base pay. On-site training is nice, but only once to twice a month, two - four hours a month may they offer you the opportunity to do training. The workers are fun, friendly (most the time), some very knowledgeable, and they treat you like family, but management can use some improvement. It’s definitely not a company to recognize their hardest workers and reward with a growth opportunity, let alone a pat on the back, but the people you will work by in the Service Department will have your back, just not anybody above your supervisor. Overall, it has its Pros and Cons, leveling it to maybe a 3.5-3.8 star.

Slow promotion process

Shift huddle before start of shift depending on service manager, your work is pre loaded before shift. Coworkers are hit or miss, only a few actually know what they’re doing. Promotion is based on how much you threaten to quit

Just another cog in the wheel

Definitely does not have a work / home balance. Work 10 hr shift you don't get 3 consecutive off days unless you are a tenured coordinator and one of the first to pick during shift bids. Then add in a constant 20 hrs (,sometimes more) of mandatory OT the entire 3+ yrs I was there.

Bad management, forced job changes

As title says, management is a joke and they force you to change docks under the guise of cross training, but in reality if youre over performing you get moved to the slowest dock under another guise of helping. Where when you get done early they still send you to another dock for overtime where you watch the rest of your coworkers leave on time because they were slower. You’re heavily punished for being good at your job.

Fast paced

Penske is a good place to work. They offer support and training when needed. My Operations Manager was professional and he really cared for his employees.

Every day you learn something new!

Starting to work here, was a big opportunity for me, never worked in this environment, it's very challenging, fast past. I'm open to learn as much as I can and be good at my job.

World Class Company

Excellent leadership that drives innovation, growth, and a great company culture. Lots of opportunity for career and personal growth. Proud to have been a part of the organization for a long time!

Union and a long pole

This job plays favorites. You versus seniority. You are taught the right way and respect to the trainers, but everyone working there does not abide by those rules. If you follow their methods you get written up. You have to hustle and you begin to learn that people with more seniority apply less and are paid more with easier routes. Doesn’t make me consider this job as a career and the favoritism to higher seniority over safety is poor especially when safety is compromised and okay for people who’ve “been” there. I worked at several Union jobs and this one is out of control. Raised concerns to a point where I just left because of it.

Poor management.

The main floor supervisor is very rude. He harasses order selectors and Hilo drivers daily. He will make fun of workers on the P.A. radio through out the whare house, so every one knows that they aren't working effectively rather then just confronting them personally. Most of the supervisors are just like the head floor supervisor, very lazy, never have any answers for your questions, don't take care or even handle your problems or concerns, and some of them are rude to their employees. The turn over rate is very high. If you can work with your head down and not talk to any one and just get through the day then try it out. They are constantly hiring people left and right.

Pros

Pay is alright.

Cons

Management and the temperature isn't regulated.

good place for a single person. not family friendly

It's refrigerated and they try to keep you in there

The management doesn't know how to balance orders so that no one gets stuck in the freezer. They don't care because they don't have to spend 8-12 hours in there. The pick rate system isn't completely fair because some tasks boost your pick rate and they decide who gets to do those tasks. You're pay fluctuates between the highest and lowest depending on your shift so make sure you get the paper stating your payrate when you start because they will try to sneak and not give it to you.

Pros

12 hour shifts

Cons

Freezer work

Fun workplace.

Just the overall way everyone seems to get along while doing their jobs and keeping customers as happy as possible. It seems to always be room for advancement.

Pros

Free lunches, bonuses, and pay in general.

Cons

I have no problems
