Run away, run very far away
Produce Department Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Southlake, TX - December 6, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Getting to go home after 8-16 hrs What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Going to work, that was truly the most stressful part because I didn’t want to be ther What is the work environment and culture like at the company? We are family, yeah a dysfunctional family that treats you like a second rate step cousin What is a typical day like for you at the company? Getting threatened and yelled at for not doing what they expected, but not having the man power or resources to do so, doing other people’s jobs because nobody showed up in other departments and dealing with the dumbest people alive as customers

hectic and overworked
Order Filler (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IN - December 6, 2023
when they say fast paced environment.. they are not kidding. i was barely trained, coworkers were not very helpful or kind, not that i blame them.. they're getting paid peanuts to run themselves ragged. on my very first day the man training me was talking to a coworker and said "you work at Kroger you're already in he11" when i was cross trained within 30 minutes of the shift i was being taunted and mocked behind my back for being "too slow". At least Walmart pays okay for what employees have to put up with. at Kroger it feels like you get nothing for putting in everything you can. i think it's very easy to see firsthand how burnt out the current employees are. Not to mention the terrifying employee bathroom, I shouldn't have stayed as long as i did.

Hard sometimes stressful work but pay us less than most competitors.
Grocery Clerk (Current Employee) - Illinois - December 6, 2023
Hard work end long hours for less pay than competitors. High turnover rate. Corporate structured processes and unrealistic metrics goals make daily work unnecessarily annoying and frequently get in the way of the simple task of supplying customers with groceries.

Good first job
Courtesy Clerk (Former Employee) - Normal, IL - December 6, 2023
Working as a courtesy clerk at Kroger was my first job and it was a good experience. Functions include bagging groceries, bringing in carts, and cleaning. Job is what you make of it, and if you are willing to work hard and treat your fellow employees with respect, in general, things will go pretty well

Not bad for first job
Cashier (Former Employee) - Washington State - December 6, 2023
I have a good manager and most of my coworkers are very productive and hardworking. The pay is ok but I enjoy my work life and the people I work with. The job keeps me active and I enjoy it.

Worstttt
Barista (Current Employee) - 3001 polo pkwy Midlothian - December 6, 2023
If i’m being completely honest, this is literally the worst place to work. Not only will you be overworked, but you most definitely will not be appreciated.

Never ending lines of chaos
Pharmacy Technician (Former Employee) - Oregon, OH - December 6, 2023
COVID-19 changed what it means to work in a pharmacy - but the people also changed. Constantly being screamed at - meeting company expectations with little to no reward. A thankless job - Mcdonalds without hamburgers.

Night stocking (Former Employee) - Columbus, OH - December 6, 2023
Job was easy when you had a full staff but stoking an entire store with 3 people was not realistic, sustainable, or even doable most nights. I was also supposed to be part time was also getting regularly scheduled 35+ hours

It was one of the worst experiences in my life!! Just an awful place to be!
Department Manager (Former Employee) - Plainfield, IN - December 5, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? I liked my employees. They were the best part about my job. The friends I made! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Most stressful was the bad management. The few bad employees! What they allowed a male employee to get away with because he was retiring soon. Just disgusting behavior was allowed. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Stressful, degrading!! Bad environment!! What is a typical day like for you at the company? I would leave in tears almost everyday. It is the worst job I've ever had

Decent job
Cashier/Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Hollins, VA - December 5, 2023
I work at Hollins Kroger, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Especially as a first job. Management constantly cuts your hours, despite you asking for a certain amount of hours per week. The management staff aren’t kind people. The work environment in general gives me extreme anxiety. Occasionally there will be nice people working while I work, but a lot of people don’t do their jobs, so there’s only one person doing all the work on the front end.
Pros
decent pay
Cons
Short breaks, not a great work environment

Terrible environment
Diary Clerk (Former Employee) - Brentwood, TN - December 5, 2023
No support. You get thrown to the wolves. You receive no training and then get yelled for messing up. It is a collection of the worst leadership qualities you can imagine.

Good first job
Courtesy Clerk (Former Employee) - Alpharetta, GA - December 5, 2023
Overall, the job is challenging, but also rewarding and fulfilling. It requires dedication, hard work, and continuous learning. The team is supportive and the company values its employees. However, the workload can be overwhelming at times and the pay may not be as competitive as other companies in the industry. Nevertheless, it is a great place to grow and develop professionally.

cloud of wacky weed
Meat/Seafood Clerk (Former Employee) - 6430 W Saginaw Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917 - December 4, 2023
I learned a lot about how meat is handled in stores. Always wash it well before cooking. Friendly meat dept. manager but the store is in poor maintenance and disrepair, broken sharp objects that need repair or attention to safety issues. They seem to be too poor to provide you with the tools and gear to do the job at all or at least in a safe professional manner, example; No gloves, no box cutter. Asked for those things to other managers there and they had no idea where they were or if they had any at all. Labeling meat for sale is a messed up disorganized mess. example; think of having hundreds of upc codes and numbers written down on a bunch of napkins and various scrap paper. No Im not kidding. You have to search and find the one you need. - hardest part of the job is that. Easiest part- is taking the boxes of meat out and filling the bins, my favorite part, it can be heavy lifting. I got to meet a lot of really neat people and had 100% positive interaction with them. The smells in the back stock area are terrible. They need to shut down and do a deep power washing and clean up. Co workers have no problem filling the restroom with a cloud of wacky weed.
Pros
Always busy or something to do.
Cons
Lack of proper training and tools or equipment to do the job.

Unfair management
Cashier (Current Employee) - Powell, OH - December 4, 2023
Management singles individuals out and favors employees. This leads to an unenjoyable work environment and not feeling appreciated. I am not sure if it has changed but it seems that management does not care for the employees

Repetitive , busy
Clicklist Clerk (Former Employee) - Bourbonnais, IL - December 4, 2023
The job is simple but can be demanding at times because of the abundance of orders that come in especially on weekends. I would say the pay needs an increase for the fast paced constant work you have to do but it was okay in general
