Overworked and underpaid, bad management, not flexible, would get mad if I called out or needed time off, only good thing was the weekly paychecks and coworkers, but a job is a job if you’re desperate go for it

Mangers all on different pages

All of managment have different ideas on how to run the company. Communication and expectations are lost because no one is on the same page. Favortism plays a big role here.

Better than JCPenney

Worked a seasonal job at JCPenney the year before in 2018 and let me tell you if you’re looking for a job for the first time and it happens to be seasonal go work at Kohl’s. The managers were very helpful and attentive to all the employees and just the staff were very friendly and made you feel seen, heard and appreciated and not isolated and cliquey. I just loved it and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who wants to work for the holidays.

Fun place to work with the right coworkers

My time with Kohls was both the most stressful but the most fun. hours are kind of all over the place and the workload can get intense, especially over the holidays. but it also helps the time fly by. Benefits and employee discounts were easily the best part. it’s actually the thing i miss the most now that i’m a regular paying customer again 😂

Loss of Values

Kohls has lost their value in their employees over the years. When I first started in the early 2000s the company was all about work/life balance and family values. Now they are all about the bottom dollar. Unfair pay as managers for the amount of hours you're expected to put in. They continue to slash payroll and it's starting to seriously show in the stores appearance and sales. Good riddance. You will soon be out of business like many other big box stores.

The most enjoyable part of the job

I loved working as a cashier and meeting and connecting with many different kinds of people. It got super busy during the holidays but a normal day looked pretty sweet.

Fine place

Great place to work. No complaints. Worked here years ago and was able to promote quickly. Always hours available and had great management. Great for first job

Best retail company to work for.

I have worked as a supervisor for six different big box companies. Kohls is by far the best company I have worked for. They care about their employees and their communities. Stores are given FUN money every quarter. FUN money is used for employee appreciation. Kohls also has a volunteer program. They encourage being active in the community and will donate to the organizations based off of the volunteer hours. Opportunities for advancement are plentiful. There is no busy work. Every task has a real purpose.

loved my coworkers, hated management

My coworkers were the only good part of the job. If you are applying to the Natomas location, don’t. The management there favorite certain people and don’t appreciate the actual hardworking people. I worked there for about 4 years, rarely ever felt appreciated from them.

Great workplace

Kohls is a great place to get started for your first job and a great place to meet great people. The managers can be a handful sometimes but just keep your head down and work.

Fine place

I feel like working there is ok if you need a job but personally I feel like the place is a bit disorganized. Not really a lot of set places for things

Not so nice management

My managers would get mad if i kneled down to take a second if i got dizzy or was out of breath due to my medical condition and they ultimately fired me over it.

Wasted a couple years

The kind of people they want to hire have to be emotionless. If yuo care about the people you work with you will be past over for promotion. Be a robot and thrive there

Better training

Kohl’s needs to dedicate itself to doing a better job at training employees. Training is rushed or sometimes no training is given at all and employees have to learn a lot on their own and by trial and error.

It was alright.

Work here as an associate and it was mixed all around. There seems to always be not enough people working at all times. Have to cover multiple areas every day and learning on the job more than anything.

Great Place To Work If You Enjoy Retail

Most of my shifts are scheduled in omni (online order fulfillment), so I am picking items from the sales floor and stockroom and packing them for shipment. You will be expected to learn most if not all positions at the store if you are seasonal (cashier, sales floor, customer service, etc.), but current management is very accommodating. It's mainly a good place to work because of the current managers at the location I work at. Training wasn't very thorough, but that's to be expected since it's a seasonal position. You're shown the basics, and if you mess up you just have to ask a manager about it. If this is your first retail job, you may feel a little lost. Kohl's as a company is not necessarily bad, but the pay is below average and there is a huge focus on getting customers to sign up for credit cards, which feels wrong. There may be opportunity for growth here, but I'm not sure.

Pros

Nice people for the most part, calm environment, mostly flexible hours, job itself is kind of fun

Cons

Pay is practically minimum wage, you will have to work in departments you don't like on occasion

Overall an upbeat, team atmosphere. Very positive.

Kohl's genuinely cares about their employees. I never before worked for an employer who was truly loyal and cared about their employees as much as Kohl's does.

Pros

often free lunches, job incentives, discounts

Cons

None
