Wonderful place to work!

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Jostens is a terrific place to work. We get to share in a very happy moment in a students life. Commencement is the start of a new life. This is a detail oriented job with customization deadlines. You have to work under pressure because everything has to be delivered and be correct for one special day - graduation! One has to be very organized and handle customer requests in a timely manner. To be successful, you have to be on top of everything and prioritize daily to work on what is most important first.

So, I did this job for 2 years, and both years I did not have proper management of my hub.I am not going into the full details, as this year was, a lot. It was miserable. You're going to wake up early, you have to be at schools typically at 6:30, the schools will some reason put the business number rather than a personal number for the contact, so you will have to sit outside and wait until someone comes. Or if they put their personal number, they most likely will not answer, or be there. I feel like this could be better managed. We had some employees that should have been fired, but some reason they kept them on just because we were short, even though we had some people doing questionable things. You drive a lot, I would suggest working it 4 days a week so you can have a 3 day weekend to recover. The job is very easy if you just do your job right the first time. The pay this year for normal photographers was $18 starting, last year it was $17. You have the chance to be a lead photographer, which the pay was $19 I believe. The pay raises are in increments of $0.25, same goes for pay based on experience. Mileage this year was $0.35 a mile, last year it was based on a category. You get a hotel only when you are driving before 4am, last year it was if you were driving 90 miles one way, which I am assuming people may have taken advantage of it, which is why there was a change. You have a clock in system both for your hours and for when you drive, so they track your mileage and location when you drive. You have the chance to make good money.Spent a lot of the season stressing -

Great place to work!

Fast paced, fun job. Mostly school hours & free evenings. Something new to do every day! Great support for management from upper management. Systems in place are well thought out and developed and make your job easier.

Management sucks but fun job

Management sucks but fun job,They hire lots of temp management, and some managers that use that power. But it’s fun travelling to different schools in different areas

Great Team with Awesome Manager

Some of the people I've worked with here have been the best coworkers I've ever had. Our hub seems to have done well this past season thanks to our understanding and awesome manager. The same cannot be said for other hubs though.

Be prepared for early morning and a lot of traveling

Waking up early is probably the hardest part of the job a long with the travel. But the work is very simple even if you don’t know much about photography.

Great place

Great team to work at. You have a strong supportive team. There isn't really anything bad to say about this company. This has been the best company I have worked for.

Great opportunity, will terminate before your rollover date.

What is the best part of working at the company? It was a great schedule, okay pay, great job opportunity but the downside is that Jostens" run out of work" faster than a someone who doesn't want to work. In other words, your assignment will end as soon as your'e suppose to rollover. They'll let you go two weeks before your rollover date. After all the hardwork and time you put in, they dont give a care about what happens to you on their behalf! Jostens has workers who are " old as pie." Whom refuse to retire so that's another reason why they will not rollover the new people. Its sad. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Used to work and make the company look good. Jostens will terminate your position two weeks-a month before your suppose to rollover. They'll say " we ran out of work/ your assignment ended."What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Good, depending on which department your assigned to.What is a typical day like for you at the company?Good days for workers, because they need people to help get the job done. Once the job is done, its bye bye.

Good pay and overworked

It’s a great experience if you’re looking for more experience behind a camera. You learn how to pose subjects and light calibration for different venues. But you’re asked to go far some days and mileage should be more. Good benefits and 401k.

Pros

Higher pay and mileage coverage

Cons

Understaffed, long trips

Draining job with long hours, can be rewarding though

long hours and many of the schools are quite far away, but I enjoy the actual work itself. dealing with upper management can be frustrating and although the pay is decent, I do think it could be more for the amount of work and hours their employees put in

Schedule always changing, but fun workplace

Will meet a lot of great people, work isn’t bad, Your schedule will change constantly, especially during peak season which you can expect 50-60hrs per week mandatory.

I’m really enjoying it, minus the driving.

I’ve been with Jostens for almost a month now. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d stay because of the very early mornings (most often leaving the house by 4:45am) and driving to and from locations; I’ve been as close as my own town but as far as 3 and a half hours. Now that I’ve gotten used to it and into the rhythm of things I am realizing how much I am actually loving it. I love photography, training was great, it’s fun to see/photograph so many students, and I love my team. The pay is quite decent as well. I’ll definitely be staying for the season and depending on where I’m at next year, I would certainly consider doing it again.

Needs work

This place could use some help. Run through temp employees like crazy. Only offer a few cent pay raise. Keep employees that they shouldn't. This place could be good but isn't

Great Place

The majority of people there are great. The work takes time to learn, but is rewarding. The training quality can vary drastically depending on who they put you with.

Productive when orders are in

Nice job for someone who wants to work in factory work but not stress over physical demands. Nice pay. cool overtime benefits. Only problem I’d say is the hours

It’s a great job but…

It’s a great job. Challenging, humbling, and meticulous. It’s just not rewarding financially. There’s no incentives and growth seems to be invisible by management. It’s unfortunate

Good money and benefits, long hours

It’s a great job to stack cash, just know if your standing up the whole time be mentally prepared for this job. The people are great and managers are great there nothing wrong between the people there it’s just the demand of hours you’ll be expected to work. But like I said GREAT money and easy if your sitting down. Hours are 6am-3 or 5p

Look somewhere else

Horrible Management! They keep Managers that know nothing about their job and employees that have no work ethic while getting rid of the ones that actually add value to the company! They do not care about the employees and have people running the business that know nothing about printing.

Pros

It’s a job

Cons

Toxic culture, Management

Poor Management

Company is fully aware of bad management but continues to allow the behavior to go unchecked. There is no accountability. Everything is a fire drill because of lack of communication and planning. High turnover in certain departments due to employee treatment and being overworked/understaffed. Tone at the top needs to be worked on in order to combat the bad culture.
