A good part-time job
ESL Teacher (Current Employee) - Camarines Sur - November 21, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedVery very low pay. For a senior teacher who's in the platform for 7 years, you only get a peso or 2 increase. Degrading to feel not being valued for that long...

good for newbies and part time only
ESL Teacher (Current Employee) - Home Based - November 20, 2023
There are few students but many teachers. Booking is really low. They have big penalties and their promotion is really slow too even if you have already fulfilled their criteria.

Too high penalties
ESL Teacher (Former Employee) - Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur - November 16, 2023
I understand that they only do penalties to avoid teachers from cancelling lessons, but if you suddenly lose internet connection a minute before your class and you were not back in 3 minutes, they deduct a heavy amount from your little salary.

Was okay then not
Senior Teacher (Former Employee) - Philippines - November 6, 2023
Was great working here while it lasted. Students were engaging, the teacher support could've been better but it is what it is. I no longer work for them as I took a break from ESL and they never sent me an email regarding the new ToS deadline so I never got to sign it in time. I reached out and asked if I can still sign it, they said no and revoked my credentials.

Online English Teacher (Former Employee) - Work from Home - October 12, 2023
The starting salary is way too low and the penalties are way too high. Lesson materials are provided however you have to provide your own equipment for teaching.

ESL Online Teacher (Former Employee) - Makati - October 12, 2023
Good-but penalties are very big. So better be cautious when it comes to your attendance. But overall. It is fun and rewarding job. You will get a lot of regular students.

Good for newbies
English Teacher (Former Employee) - Remote - October 4, 2023
If you want to have an experience, it's a good start because they employ even teachers with bad English. I attended several seminars and encountered several teachers with bad grammar. I guess that's why rate per class is really low. When I saw a job posting, it was said that you'll earn earn up to 50k per month. That never happened, all I got was exhaustion. I think because I was just a starting teacher. I still continued to teach because the work setup was flexible and formed a bond with certain students. It's good if you other commitments. But I chose to stop because I was not being promoted even though I already met the quota for promotion. They said the system was broken that's why they're not promoting. But as a teacher with a consistent good review, I just couldn't. Also, the pay raise is really low, you'll get disappointed. For the hourly pay they offer, the deduction is extremely high(it will make you cry sometimes I swear). All in all, I will recommend this company if: - You need experience in teaching - You want to be an English teacher who's willing to learn despite not being good in English - You want a sideline job I do not recommend this company if: - a minimum salary is not good enough for you(for newbie teachers) - You cannot work during peak hours (6 PM - 9 PM) - You don't have patience towards students

There are a lot of students, yes. Penalties are very heavy.
English Tutor (Former Employee) - Online - September 16, 2023
Good for starters & for experience but you can't really put it in your resume because they don't give out certificates. Some students are nice and it's always a honor to teach but the salary is really low.
Pros
good environment for starting esl tutors
Cons
low salary

Everyday is a new experience
ESL Teacher (Former Employee) - Davao City - September 16, 2023
If you love kids and your comfortable with them it's a great experience especially when you are planning to have one it's a great training ground. It was pandemic when I applied and pay was so low and you will not expect that your student will rate you low and it will affect your performance because the mom wants a refund. Chinese students with their mom are always the hard one to please.

Not very supportive of teachers
Online English Teacher (Former Employee) - San Juan, Metro Manila - September 11, 2023
Poor support. It was good during their earlier years, but they eventually removed incentives and bonuses. After 5 years in the company, nothing changed.

Good
ESL Teacher (Former Employee) - Bogo City, Cebu - August 27, 2023
The company was good at first because there were many students. You could really get high amount per cut off. Their teaching tools were very easy to use as well. Some students are nice. Work life balance. You can close your slots anytime you want.

The company is not fair also. They will took your salary.
Online ESL Tutor (Former Employee) - Manila - August 26, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Very worst company. They didn't give my last pay out then I cannot log in anymore on my portal. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Less pay, more penalty. You're working for penalty even though you're doin' great. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very stressful. Admin and team members are very unprofessional and unapproachable. What is a typical day like for you at the company? None. This is very stressful company. Don't apply. They took my last salary, then, I can't log in anymore on my account. I contacted the admin and said, they can't see my account and registered even though I'm teaching on the platform for 2 years.

Unreasonable termination
ESL Teacher (Former Employee) - Ortigas Pasig - August 11, 2023
I was one of the teachers who was forced to resign or else get terminated due to incompetence. If we can't hit the target, you will have to say good bye. Demanding us quota that would've been reached if they only did not sub our booked lessons for no reason. A lot of teachers didn't get their backpays and other stuff. When i say a lot, A LOT! This was because of issues sparked from China. 51Talk used to be a happy place. A Dreamland as I might say. Though the basic salary is low, the incentives we get is worth a lot of money. The experience, training, culture, and a lot more is still a treasure to me. It is really a sad turn. Now, teachers who were chosen to stay don't get much from the incentives anymore. As the company needs a fresh start.

Misleading recruiter job
Recruitment Associate (Former Employee) - Pasig - July 28, 2023
Recruiter job is basically a crossover between a call center and sales agent. Operations is 24/7 so your monthly performance will greatly influence the day off you will receive. Even if you did well, you have to consider competing with the rest of your colleagues so even a "meeting the target" performance may not end up with a weekends off. Salary is ok for a fresh graduate but overall, they offer below market rates. They had annual performance review and you could receive the bonus if you meet or exceeds performance targets. However, you will not be getting the bonus lump-sum but instead, would be divided per quarter. If you left the company halfway through the year, expect that the rest of your bonus is non-refundable. The culture and the people were good.
Pros
Management trains you to speak neutral English

Not recommendable
Online ESL Teacher (Former Employee) - Online - July 24, 2023
The salary is too low and it's very difficult to get promoted. When I was working here, the salary was 50 pesos per class, but now I think it's 35 pesos per class. I'm not really sure. I suggest you find another company to teach. There are a lot of companies there that accept teachers with no experience. Don't settle for less.
