The Role

We're looking for an experienced Business Loan Underwriter to join our growing Australian credit team and help deliver fast, high-quality lending decisions for Australian SMEs.

You'll be responsible for assessing business loan applications, analyzing financial information, balancing risk and opportunity, and preparing clear credit recommendations. Working closely with our Credit, Sales, and Operations teams, you'll ensure every application is assessed consistently in line with SimplyFunded's lending policies and risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess Australian SME loan applications against SimplyFunded's credit policy and affordability framework.
• Conduct comprehensive credit assessments, including business and director verification.
• Analyse business bank statements, financial reports, and supporting documentation to assess trading performance, cash flow, affordability, and debt servicing capacity.
• Review tax obligations, supplier commitments, payroll stability, and overall business financial health.
• Identify key risks and mitigating factors and prepare well-structured credit recommendations.
• Apply SimplyFunded's lending policies to determine suitable lending limits and loan offers.
• Liaise with brokers, business owners, and internal stakeholders to obtain additional information when required.
• Work closely with the Sales and Operations teams to ensure efficient turnaround from application through to settlement.
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with internal underwriting policies and Australian lending requirements.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in Australia business lending or Australia SME credit loan underwriting.
• Experience assessing commercial loan applications and interpreting business financial information.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Solid understanding of credit risk assessment and responsible lending principles.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced remote environment.
• Commercial mindset with sound judgment and consistent decision-making.
• Experience within Australian commercial lending or non-bank lending is highly regarded but not essential.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday
Australian business hours (schedule may vary depending on the Australian state and daylight-saving time).
