  • Graphic Design Skills, Layout Skills, Customer Focus, Creativity, Flexibility, Attention to Detail, Deadline-Oriented, Desktop Publishing Tools, Acute Vision
  • Listen to clients and understand their needs before making design decisions
  • Works on a variety of products digital and print designs
  • Work to a brief agreed with the client, creative director or account manager and will develop creative ideas and concepts.
  • The appropriate media and style has to be chosen to meet the client's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • You may need to manage more than one design brief at a time and typical activities include:
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials.
  • Plans concept by studying information and materials.
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts and developing interactive design;
  • Using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time;
  • Obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval.
  • Prepares finished copy and art by operating typesetting, printing, and similar equipment; purchasing from vendors.
  • Prepares final layout by marking and pasting up finished copy and art.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


Important Qualities

  • Analytical skills. Graphic designers must be able to look at their work from the point of view of their consumers and examine how the designs they develop will be perceived by the consumer to ensure they convey the client’s desired message.
  • Artistic ability. Graphic designers must be able to create designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to clients and consumers. They produce rough illustrations of design ideas.
  • Communication skills. Graphic designers must communicate with clients, customers, and other designers to ensure that their designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information.
  • Computer skills. Up to date with industry leading software and technologies (In Design, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc)
  • Creativity. Graphic designers must be able to think of new approaches to communicating ideas to consumers. They develop unique designs that convey a recognizable meaning on behalf of their clients.
  • Time-management skills. Graphic designers often work on multiple projects at the same time, each with a different deadline.
