Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. They work in collaboration with physicians and healthcare teams to provide effective respiratory care, manage ventilators, assist in diagnostic testing, and deliver education to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment: Perform detailed assessments of patients’ respiratory conditions, including conducting physical exams and diagnostic tests (such as spirometry or arterial blood gas analysis).
  • Treatment Plans: Develop individualized care plans for patients based on their conditions and treatment needs, including administering oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Ventilator Management: Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators for patients in critical care settings, adjusting settings as necessary to maintain optimal patient care.
  • Emergency Care: Provide immediate respiratory care during emergencies, including CPR, airway management, and resuscitation.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about respiratory conditions, treatments, and preventive measures.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient assessments, treatments, and progress for medical review and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with medical teams, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and effective care for patients.
  • Research & Continuous Learning: Stay updated on new respiratory therapy techniques and innovations. Participate in ongoing education and research activities.

Requirements:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Licensure: Must be a licensed Respiratory Therapist in the Philippines, with successful completion of the board examination for Respiratory Therapy.
  • Experience: Previous clinical experience is preferred, particularly in hospitals, intensive care units (ICUs), or emergency care settings.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in operating medical equipment such as ventilators, oxygen therapy devices, and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong knowledge of respiratory diseases, pharmacology, and patient care procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure, especially in critical and emergency situations.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pediatric or neonatal respiratory care.
  • Familiarity with advanced respiratory care techniques, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
  • Additional certifications, such as Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), are advantageous.
