Job Summary

The Hotel Waiter delivers exceptional dining experiences to guests by taking orders, serving food and beverages, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment. Whether working in the main restaurant, a luxury lounge, or delivering room service, this role represents the hotel's brand through high-quality customer service, efficiency, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities1. Guest Service & Order Management

  • Welcome and Seat Guests: Greet guests warmly, escort them to tables, and present menus with a professional demeanor.
  • Menu Knowledge: Provide detailed information on menus, ingredients, portion sizes, and potential allergens. Offer recommendations and upsell specialty drinks, appetizers, or desserts.
  • Order Taking: Accurately record food and beverage orders using the hotel’s Point of Sale (POS) system and relay them correctly to the kitchen staff.
  • Food & Beverage Service: Serve dishes and drinks promptly, ensuring correct presentation, appropriate temperatures, and adherence to silver service or casual dining standards as required.

2. Operations & Maintenance

  • Table Setup & Side Work: Prepare dining areas before service by setting tables (linens, silverware, glassware), replenishing condiments, and stocking service stations.
  • Clearing & Cleaning: Promptly clear tables as guests finish courses, reset tables for the next party, and maintain a spotless dining room.
  • Room Service (In-Room Dining): When assigned, transport trays or carts to guest rooms, set up the meal according to hotel standards, and retrieve used trays later.
  • Billing & Payments: Present accurate bills, process payments (cash, credit cards, or room charges), and handle receipts responsibly.

3. Compliance & Teamwork

  • Health & Safety: Adhere strictly to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations (e.g., HACCP standards).
  • Alcohol Responsibility: Monitor guest alcohol consumption and adhere to legal regulations regarding the service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate closely with kitchen staff, bartenders, and Duty officer to ensure smooth operations and resolve guest complaints quickly.

Skills and QualificationsRequired

  • Experience: Proven experience as a waiter, server, or runner
  • Communication: Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills in English (multi-lingual skills are highly valued in international hotels).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and carry heavy trays for long periods.

Soft Skills

  • Customer-Centric: A warm, polite, and patient attitude with a passion for hospitality.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to handle stressful situations, quick turnarounds, and demanding guests gracefully.
  • Attention to Detail: Noticing when a guest's water glass is empty, a fork is missing, or a dish isn't plated perfectly.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work in shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
