About the Role

We are an Australian residential building company looking for an experienced Architect, Architectural Draftsperson or Interior Architect based in the Philippines to work with us on residential renovation projects in Melbourne, Australia.

Our projects typically include:

• Bathrooms
• Kitchens
• Laundries
• Kitchen, bathroom and laundry combinations
• Internal alterations and reconfigurations
• Whole-home renovations

We are looking for someone we can work with long-term, rather than outsourcing individual drawings to different people for every project.

The right person will eventually become familiar with our construction methods, preferred products, cabinetry hardware, drawing standards and overall design style.

How Our Process Works

We will arrange for each property to be professionally measured and 3D scanned in Australia.

You will receive the resulting 3D point-cloud / laser scan data, site photographs, project scope and other relevant information.

You will use this information to create accurate existing-condition drawings and develop the proposed renovation documentation.

We will also provide a Selections Schedule containing the products and finishes selected for the project.

Your responsibility will include ensuring these selections are accurately incorporated into the architectural drawings, cabinetry documentation and 3D visualisations.

Architectural Documentation

Depending on the project, you may be required to produce:

• Existing floor plans
• Proposed floor plans
• Demolition plans
• Dimensioned construction plans
• Internal elevations
• Bathroom elevations
• Kitchen elevations
• Laundry elevations
• Electrical and lighting layouts
• Plumbing fixture locations
• Tile layouts
• Door and window information
• Construction details where required
• 3D models and client renders

The drawings must be accurate, practical and detailed enough for our Australian builder and subcontractors to use during construction.

Cabinetry & Joinery Documentation

A major part of this position will be the ability to produce detailed cabinetry/joinery drawings and specifications.

This may include cabinetry for:

• Kitchens
• Kitchen islands
• Pantries
• Laundries
• Bathroom vanities
• Linen cupboards
• Wardrobes
• Entertainment units
• Other custom joinery

You will be provided with our preferred materials, finishes, construction requirements and hardware specifications.

You must be able to design and document cabinetry around the actual hardware and components being used, rather than simply drawing the external appearance of the cabinetry.

This may include:

• Hinges
• Drawer runners
• Drawer systems
• Lift-up mechanisms
• Pull-out systems
• Pantry hardware
• Waste-bin systems
• Corner cabinet hardware
• Handles and finger-pull details
• LED lighting
• Appliance integration
• Cabinet accessories
• Other nominated cabinetry hardware

Experience working with manufacturers such as Blum, Hettich, Häfele or similar is highly regarded.

Cabinetry drawings should include sufficient information for pricing, coordination and manufacture, including where applicable:

Design Advice

We are also looking for someone who can contribute to the design process, rather than simply draw exactly what they are given.

There will be projects where we provide a general concept, client requirements or an existing layout and ask you to help develop the best solution.

You should be comfortable providing practical design advice relating to:

• Kitchen layouts and functionality
• Bathroom layouts
• Laundry layouts
• Cabinetry design
• Storage solutions
• Appliance positioning
• Circulation and clearances
• Lighting
• Material and finish combinations
• Practical construction considerations
• Alternative design solutions

If you identify something that does not work well, is difficult to construct or could be designed better, we want you to tell us and propose an alternative.

We value someone who can think like a designer while also understanding how the project will actually be built.

Selections & Specifications

You will receive our project Selections Schedule containing items such as:

• Tiles
• Tapware
• Basins
• Baths
• Toilets
• Cabinet finishes
• Cabinet hardware
• Benchtops
• Appliances
• Lighting
• Flooring
• Paint colours
• Fixtures and fittings

These selections must be accurately transferred into the relevant drawings, specifications and 3D model.

Attention to detail is extremely important.

3D Visualisation

We require professional 3D visualisations so our clients can understand what their renovation will look like before construction.

The renders should accurately represent the actual products and selections nominated for the project, rather than generic finishes.

• Revit
• Archicad

or similar is highly regarded.

Point-Cloud Experience

An important part of this role is being able to work from 3D point-cloud / laser scan data.

You should be comfortable receiving scan files and converting this information into accurate existing-condition architectural drawings.

Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Archicad, Autodesk ReCap or similar point-cloud workflows is highly desirable.

Experience working on Australian residential projects and Australian construction standards is highly desirable.

We are not looking for someone who only produces attractive 3D renders.

We need someone who understands the relationship between:

Design → Selections → Architectural Drawings → Cabinetry Documentation → Construction

The documentation you produce will ultimately be used by builders, cabinetmakers and subcontractors on real construction projects.

Accuracy and buildability are therefore extremely important.
