Job Description:

Surveillance:

  • Apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, to generate the institutional data on nosocomial infections and antimicrobial resistance.
  • Conduct surveillance of selected and/ or reportable infectious diseases, provide details/ documentation on these cases, and investigate reported outbreaks in the hospital; These can be done through review of patient records, microbiology culture and sensitivity results, and other pertinent laboratory findings.
  • Assess environmental control through surveillance of water supply systems as needed and implementation of isolation precautions, as indicated, such as contact, droplet or airborne precautions.
  • Participate in active investigations of unusual hospital infection trends or outbreaks.
  • Report all in-patients with communicable diseases, as required by the Department of Health and maintain appropriate records.

Data:

  • Collect data in support of epidemiological studies of specific infections or infection control problem areas to determine the source of the problem and make appropriate recommendations.
  • To assist in generating an annual hospital antibiogram.
  • Performance Improvement:
  • Participate in quality/ performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring nosocomial infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis.
  • Select indicators based on the projected use of the data as well as plan and participate in the budget process.
  • Assist in the organization of regularly scheduled Hospital Infection Control meetings and dissemination of recommendations hospital-wide.

Education:

  • Plan, organize, develop and implement educational programs for all hospital employees including administrative and ancillary services which convey basic healthcare knowledge and skills so as to increase employee awareness on infection control and foster disease prevention through education, lifestyle modification and immunization.

Exposure:

  • Develop appropriate informational materials at appropriate level of understanding and need for both standard and isolation precautions.
  • Serve as knowledgeable and available resource on infection control practices and the policies to patients, families, staff and health system employees.
  • Participate in continuing educational activities initiated by the Infection Control Committee which may be done hospital-wide or departmental be done hospital-wide or departmental

Regulatory:

  • Maintain compliance with national standards and regulating bodies such as Philhealth and DOH licensing and accreditation.
  • Participate in maintaining policies and procedures, which provide for a program of preventive medicine for hospital personnel to include protocol relating to exposure to infectious diseases and prevention of cross-contamination.
  • Assist in drawing out a written Infection Control manual for Sacred Heart Hospital
  • Follow up the members of the Infection Control Committee for attendance to regular meetings and implementation of specific assignments.
  • Maintains confidentiality of organizational and patient information in accordance with Hospital policy and applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Others:

  • Assessing advice on patients with clinical infectious disease in different nursing units and discuss potential problems from nursing management perspective
  • Visiting critical care areas and discuss any problems or potential problems with other health team
  • Reviewing culture results and confer with laboratory staff
  • Visiting the wards/units with significant results from the laboratory for make sure proper precautions are being taken with suspected and known infections
  • Making hospital rounds to make sure infection control practices are properly observed
  • Making/revising/reviewing infection control policies
  • Coordinating with and direct other hospital departments in matter pertaining to the control of infection and cleaning of the environment and equipment
  • Coordinating with staff in the ER/Admitting office regarding admission of patients as required.
  • Presents monthly statistics to the infection control committee, including rates of total nosocomial infections, medical and surgical rates, sites of infections, most prevalent organism causing infections.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Must be a licensed Nurse
  • Can work with minimal supervision; organized and has high attention to details
  • Knowledgeable regarding compliance with the implementation of infection control standards, DOH & Philhealth accreditation requirements
  • Displays good coordination & teamwork skills

Pay: Php25,000.00 per month
